This care home is situated in a residential area very near to Cheltenham Town centre and is in close proximity to local shops, amenities and bus services. It provides nursing and personal care, predominantly to the older person. There are six beds designated to the care of those with dementia.

As a charity we are able to offer very competitive rates for residential care. Fees vary according to factors such as the level of care required and size of room, so please talk to Liam, our home manager to find out more. We have never had to ask anyone to leave due to their personal financial circumstances. – there are some services which we can’t rate, while some might be under appeal from the provider. – the service is performing badly and we've taken enforcement action against the provider of the service. It has been a very difficult year for both staff and residents, yet my mother has not suffered too much in terms of anxiety and mood. We are grateful, as a family, for the care she continues to receive, and we apprentice fully the very difficult decisions the management has had to make to ensure the safety of all the residents. The staff at Astell are kind, caring and extremely patient. The care they have given during this very difficult time is so appreciated by the family. I would have no hesitation in recommending Astell to anyone thinking of respite or permanent care.

Our housekeeping and maintenance teams take great pride in keeping the home clean, fresh, safe, and looking at its best, which was particularly noted in our recent CQC inspection. The refurbished lounge, quiet room and dining room are all beautifully proportioned with high ceilings and large windows filling the rooms with light. The architect designed modern conservatory gives a fantastic striking space.

Quality and suitability of management
This is the latest available inspection report for this service, carried out on 16th March 2010. As a small home we get to know each resident personally and enjoy finding activities which are interesting and stimulating for each individual to encourage physical and mental wellbeing. Our activities coordinator organises a varied programme, tailored to the interests of our residents. Some activities are organised for small groups whereas others are organised on a one to one basis. In addition we have a great store of crafts, jigsaws and games for residents to enjoy at their own leisure.
Astell House, as a residential home, is unusual in that it has a full time nurse as part of the care team. The nurse is able to understand each resident’s clinical care as well as getting know them personally, responding to any change in condition rapidly. We are pleased to quote for the cleaning and restoration of paintings and we also do specialist framing.
We will help with the hanging and lighting of paintings and will advise on the enhancement of interiors. Reviews are limited to one per user and you have reviewed this business before. The inspector made no statutory requirements on the home as a result of this inspection and there were no outstanding actions from the previous inspection report. Our accessible landscaped gardens offer plenty of places to sit quietly or socialise with family and friends with the beautiful architecture of Astell as its backdrop. The raised beds offer accessible gardening opportunities for green fingered residents. Astell House is a striking home full of character and interest.
We welcome guests to join residents for a meal and we enjoy hosting family parties for any occasion. We liaise closely with a multi-disciplinary team of external health professionals including doctors and specialist nurses to ensure every resident’s care needs are met. We have close links with our local GP surgery who hold a fortnightly surgery at Astell house and we have other visiting services such as chiropodists and opticians. Our team liaises with the NHS rapid response team to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. Astell House is a beautifully refurbished characterful home offering high quality residential care for up to 36 residents in a peaceful and relaxed setting.
Lilian Faithfull Care is a charity providing care, support and a ‘home for life’ for the elderly in Gloucestershire. It had that positive vibe and the welcoming feeling of an extended family. I can't thank you enough for all the care and affection you gave to my mum.
